WHAT WILL FILM PHOTOGRAPHY LOOK LIKE IN MY KANSAS CITY WEDDING VENUE?
March 9, 2026
As your Kansas City wedding photographer, your film photos will look like your wedding venue, just cooler! You might be a film aficionado, or you might be someone drawn to film without knowing exactly what you love about it. What I can tell you, is that film looks incredible wherever it goes as long as the photographer knows how to work with light and knows what they are doing!
You want a film photographer who shoots analog film, not just a point and shoot camera, because your day deserves to be documented at the highest quality. Film photography is the ultimate vibe. As a film wedding photographer with 9 years of experience, here are some of my favorite wedding venues to shoot film at!
La Villa
Located in the heart of Kansas City, this revitalized Spanish chapel is the wedding venue of my dreams, literally, because I got married there! If you want an elegant, chic, design forward venue to give your own twist to, look no further than La Villa. This venue has beautiful light and depth. Film will do well in this space with the light coming through the glorious arched windows (still swooning 6 years later!).
Hotel Kansas City
Romantic, ethereal, and elegant for all your hotel wedding dreams. When I shoot film at Hotel Kansas City, I lean into the light of the environment. The sun glowing through the windows casting rainbows on the floor, the stained glass windows in the ball room, or the glow of candles and lamps on guest tables. Low light as a film photographer takes patience, skill, and steady hands. If you are hoping for soft grain, emotion, and nostalgia, film is perfect for a wedding at Hotel Kansas City.
The Simpson House
Cozy, historic, and full of character. This is one of my favorite Kansas City wedding venues. With a gorgeous space for outdoor seating and ceremonies, The Simpson House is a gem that creates an wholesome atmosphere for intimate gatherings. This space has so many different alcoves that make film photography so unique and personal. Using the light in the space, and creating some light of your own with candles or flash would make for magical photos. The Simpson House has plenty of light to bask in. Whether you are in shadow or in direct sun, Simpson House is a great place for a film photographer.
Powell Gardens
Open and airy partnered with a beautiful hillside vista. The potential for shooting film in this space is endless. Film will look lovely in any area. With unique architecture and rolling hills around the lake a Powell Gardens wedding is elegant in every season. Perfect for folks who love color, a lower ISO film stock, and getting to experience light all day long.
The Century Club
A wedding with old money vibes! Chandeliers, and historic Kansas City charm adorn this spaceβ what more could you want. Huge windows, stone, low light, and a total vibe. Whether you lean into flash photos or are going for a low light, candle lit reception, film will give you an opulent ambiance and enhance the wine educed dance floor photos.
Longview Mansion
Talk about charm. Bookish, warm, and full of stunning details, a wedding at Longview Mansion is dreamy. Film suits this space so well. Low light, playing with shadows, and plenty of spaces to explore for variety. This venue was made for a film photographer. I love finding little pockets of light here and experimenting both with the indoor lighting and the west facing windows as the sun goes down. There isnβt a bad spot in this venue!
The Guild
The Guild is an iconic wedding venue in Kansas City. Itβs glamorous, chic, and the perfect place for flash film photos, or a candle lit dinner party. I love the challenge of shooting film in a space like The Guild, where natural light is not abundant. This calls for creativity and skill. As a documentary film photographer, you need someone who knows what they are doing to shoot analog film well in this space to achieve properly exposed photos.
Letβs document your love on film.
If you find yourself drawn to the nostalgia, texture, and color of film, look no further. Your wedding deserves to be documented with care, intention, and precision. Film communicates emotion with ease. Lean into the effortless nature of film and see what artistry unfolds.
